Friends and Food

So I've settled into my new life in Seoul and I am still loving it and have had the chance, between a hectic teaching schedule (of which I don't even want to get into - I'll keep it on the Korean culture, etc. at this time) and getting my apartment/living situation set to enjoy much of what Seoul and South Korea has to offer.

There are some pretty sweet ladies who I work with, and we have been having a good time during our scarce free time. Most of these pictures were taken before I succumbed to a nasty cold/cough which has pretty much been preventing me from blogging (my apologies!). After a quick trip to the international clinic at a massive medical center here, I am as good as knew - knock on wood. Enjoy the pictures...

A night out after eating delicious Korean BBQ - pork and more pork!

Indulging in some Makkoli. A sweet, rice beer-like liquor native to Korea traditionally served in these beat-up metal bowls.

Never drink in Korea without food - which I appreciate! Here we have a veggie pancake of sorts.

Imbibing in some more Makkoli. Contrary to what the kettle might imply, the Makkoli is served cold.

This culinary experience was an interesting one. There is this tiny Japanese restaurant down the street from my apartment run by two Korean brothers. A some girls and I went there and everything was in Korean so we pointed and hoped for the best - this is what we got. The picture does not do it justice because these little flakes of fish were wriggling when we got it. I thought they were alive, but thank goodness, no. The flakes of fish just get so hot that they wiggle until they cool down supposedly. A good dish, nonetheless.

Co-workers and I in a town about 3 hours south of Seoul, Jung-ju. A good night had by all.

Straight up street food! Fish cakes simmering in broth, fried delicacies, and more fried tastiness..mmm.

The supposed best dalkalbi in Korea - it was pretty amazing. Notice the river of cheese in the next picture...

A little piece of Christmas in Seoul.

Namdaemun - one heck of a place to shop!

Mustache party - epic.
