Weekend Adventures

So it's been a couple weeks here in Seoul and I'm still loving it. At my school I have been subbing for another teacher who is taking a two-week break so I will be assigned another teaching position at my school this coming Monday. Of course I don't know what that will be because that is the way they do things here in Korea - last minute. I feel like I am pretty flexible so I am able to go with the flow and will adapt to where ever they place me. My school is great, however, they treat teachers very well. I feel like I am always being asked if I am feeling sick because "In America, you wait so long to see a doctor and it's so expensive. In Korea, you go to a pharmacy and you can get seen in 3 min." Sounds pretty sweet. So far, I haven't gotten sick (knock on wood).

I've been to several amazing Korean restaurants, explored some of the city and done some shopping - Korean style. (they have amazing fashion here)

Here are some photos from my last couple weekends...

There are so many cute coffee shops here!

I love stumbling upon ancient structures like this one below, however, I heard they have all been rebuilt after the war.

There are Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks everywhere, but more than those, Coffee Beans are the most prevalent.

Last weekend was the final weekend for the Lantern Festival on this restored stream that runs through the middle of Seoul. It was a bit magical...

The G20 summit was here the first weekend I arrived. I should have gone to meet Obama...

Chicken soup, mmmmm

This is a line of people waiting to receive kimchi food items that were being donated by Emart, a big corporation like Wal Mart in the US.

Another stream downtown in the shopping area of dongdaemun.

There were aisles and aisles of cloth, buttons, thread, etc. that manufacturers could buy in bulk.

More Hongdae - my favorite area! I went back for more Saturday craft fair.

An indoor Trevi Fountain at a mall - nice and classy.

Oh! Also, I went to Costco last night. They have a real Costco here. I stocked up on cheese, balsamic vinegar, pasta sauce, gum, etc.

We'll see what next weekend has in store...
